Property Description
LA BERGERIE PUYVERT
Built about 1670 of honey colored stone quarried at nearby Rognes, the
house originally was used as a stables, granaries and storerooms Later, the building was used for cultivating silkworms, a common cottage industry in the
l9th and early 20th centuries. The present owners have renovated the
building into comfortable, spacious living quarters, keeping the
original structure wherever possible. All ground floor rooms have
graceful vaulted ceilings. Upstairs ceilings are beamed.
For outdoor living during much of the year La Bergerie has a walled
garden with terrace - a pleasant place to take meals on warm days -
shade trees, lawn and flowerbeds, and, entered through a glass door
from the garden, a poolhouse and terrace beside a sheltered swimming
pool, measuring 9.50 x 7 metres. The pool is maintained by
environmentally friendly products and is chlorine free.
Main Floor
The Sitting Room The original 'bergerie' or stable has been made into a
large sitting room with a glass door opening to the garden and another
to the dining room. Comfortable sofas and chairs are set in two seating
arrangements - one looking and opening to the garden, the other to the color TV.
Dining Room. Once the wine cellar with barrels ranged along the
walls, this spacious vaulted room, opens from kitchen. The table seats eight.
The Kitchen. The roomy kitchen/sitting room, with armchairs set near the
window, is equipped with dishwasher, refrigerator-freezer, gas stove,
microwave oven, double stainless steel sinks, tiled counters and pine
cupboards.
Second Floor:
Master Bedroom. This large room faces south and has a pleasant sitting
area overlooking the garden. The king-sized bed may be separated into
two beds.
Second Bedroom. Stone walls, massive beams and a skylight make this an
unusual and attractive bedroom. It has a queen-sized bed.

Third Floor:
Third Bedroom. This spacious bedroom, furnished with twin beds, was
originally part of the top-story granary. Two sets of glass doors now
open on to a terrace which overlooks the village and the Trevaresse
hills to the south. It has a full ensuite bathroom.
The Studio. The high-ceilinged studio makes an ideal sitting room or
playroom. It has a bed suitable for a child. Between the studio and the
bedroom is a kitchenette with refrigerator and cooktop, great for
preparing breakfast or a snack on the terrace.
